“Archaeologists are detectives who study how people lived in the past. They figure out what happened, when, how, and why. Using the clues that people left behind, they try to understand how and why human culture has changed through time.”

Scouts will learn how these history detectives figure all that out at our annual Dover Dam Weekend,
May 1-3 as we offer Archaeology Merit Badge. With guidance, scouts will learn about techniques and tools used to “transport” back in time, to try to see what it was really like. Scouts will learn about real archaeological sites and may get to hold real artifacts discovered at real “digs.” Expect a tour of the Fort Laurens site, Ohio’s only Revolutionary War fort, along with its museum and best of all, an active archeological dig. Learn about nearby historic Zoar.

The weekend should also include a chance to tour a real dam! Throw in a commemorative patch, a great dinner Saturday night, and an old-fashioned campfire and it makes for one great weekend. The cost is $25 per participant for all attending youth & adults.

In prior Archaeology MB weekends, the event reached capacity and registration had to close, so make your plans, and get ready to sign up so your scouts can dig it!
