Adventure Race - July 20, 2019
For the latest information and
Rugged adventure awaits in this action-packed race! Run, paddle, trek, mountain bike and orienteer! Navigate your way around Camp Tuscazoar, the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail and the Tuscarawas River to see if you have what it takes to earn the title! Team up with friends or tackle the challenge solo. Racers will cover up to 16+ miles over the rugged and beautiful terrain of northern Tuscarawas County, picking up checkpoints along the way!
For those who want to compete at the Ultimate level, the final leg will be an orienteering adventure. Competitors will have 60 minutes from their start time to return. Controls will be scored differently depending on the level of difficulty in reaching them; therefore, competitors must choose a strategy, with the clock ticking away. The competitor with the highest net point score is the winner.
The race will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the camp. Participants will run about five miles for the first leg, paddle 3.5 miles on the Tuscarawas River for the second leg, trek for one mile and will mountain bike 8.5 miles to complete race. The Orienteering leg will follow.
The participation fee is $60 per person for Sprinter level participants and $65 per person for Ultimate level participants. Rates for team and three-person relay participation are posted as well.
Camp Tuscazoar will also offer a Junior Adventure Race for young competitors ages 5-14 that is sure to be a hit! This three-step activity includes an age-appropriate twist on the biking, running, and paddling that is happening over the hill. First, a bicycle ride on the new CTF East Side courses will offer an easy introduction to mountain biking. An environmental obstacle course will follow next, challenging every participant to be an observer and student of nature. Finally, the Rain-Gutter Regatta will give competitors the opportunity to build a boat using recycled materials and then sail it on the rain gutter course, seeing whose ship is seaworthy and can survive the test. This is not a timed event but a chance to be outdoors and enjoying nature while learning in the process. All participants will receive a reward for completing the events. This will be a great experience for both Cub and Girl Scouts, along with any children attending the Adventure Race with their families. A $5.00 donation will include all activities and a light lunch!
The Tuscazoar Adventure Race is being planned with the assistance of the Tuscarawas County commissioners, the Stark and Tuscarawas campuses of Kent State University, the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, the Dirt Line, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and many volunteers.
