Camp Tuscazoar will host its first Tuscazoar Adventure Race on August 19 at the camp. A rugged adventure awaits in this 17-mile, action-packed race. The course will include a running, paddling and mountain biking as participants navigate their way around Camp Tuscazoar, the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail, and the Tuscarawas River.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. at the camp. Participants will run about six miles for the first leg, paddle four miles on the Tuscarawas River for the second leg, and will mountain bike seven miles to complete race.
Participation will be limited to the first 100 registrants. The early-bird participation fee is $80 for single participants and $75 per person for team registrations. The fees will increase after June 1.
The Tuscazoar Adventure Race is being planned with the assistance of the Tuscarawas County commissioners, the Stark and Tuscarawas campuses of Kent State University, the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, the Dirt Line, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and many volunteers.
Some details are still being worked on. The biggest challenge that still needs a solution is the take-out location here at camp. We are expecting 100 participants which would require about 100 boats to be banked along our camp. Currently, we have several folks canoeing the river looking for an appropriate spot and once found- there may be grant monies available to improve the area and make it suitable. Volunteers are needed to assist with parking, setup, water stations, boat drop and launch, boat take out, canoe trailers, bike guards and helpers, and as a last runner and a last biker to make sure everyone has completed the course.
The Kent State Lions Club will be hosting a pasta dinner on Friday and plans are underway to have a small band in the Hoover Amphitheater for folks that may choose to camp with us.
If you have any suggestions or if you wish to volunteer in some way, please let us know through the camp email: email@example.com or call Nancy Schoenbaum at 330-493-1386.
Camp Tuscazoar is located on County Road 83 (Boy Scout Rd.) just
